(Bloomberg) Google, Twitter Inc., and Snap Inc are among other major tech firms joining hands in push for more workplace diversity in Silicon Valley.
The firms announced the Catalyze Tech coalition on Thursday that seeks to hold the members accountable for their representation of people of color, women, LGBTQ, and first-generation college graduates.
The firms also agreed on equity in hiring practices, product design, and supplier welfare.
The move by major tech firms follows growing scrutiny over their diversity and inclusion programs. Activist shareholders have also been pushing the tech firms to embrace equality.
The Catalyze Tech coalition was signed by thirty-one entities, a group of nonprofits, and researchers. The coalition will give $20 million to train computer science teachers in black and Hispanic colleges
Only 8% of workers of large tech firms comprise of Hispanics, while blacks comprise only 5%, yet they make up about 18% and 13%, respectively, of the American population.
