General Motors’ majority-owned autonomous vehicle subsidiary Cruise has agreed to acquire self-driving car start-up Voyage, according to CNBC. The companies did not disclose the terms of the deal.
Voyage CEO Oliver Cameron will join Cruise as vice president of product.
Voyage, which operates in retirement communities, has a talented team with direct experience in developing a full-stack AV solution for developing the world’s most advanced self-driving vehicles.
It is unclear how long Cruise will continue operating in the retirement communities
A majority of Voyage’s 60 employees are expected to join Cruise as it focuses on launching a robotaxi business in San Francisco.
The acquisition of Voyage adds to an ongoing consolidation in the autonomous vehicle sector
Cruise has remained steadfast in its testing since being acquired by GM in 2016 and has grown its registered testing fleet to more than 200 vehicles.
