27 countries with the highest incomes and representing 11% of the global population claim 40% of the world’s Covid-19 vaccinations, according to Bloomberg. Economies making up the least wealthy have gotten just 1.6% of the vaccines so far.
The data on inequalities in vaccinations comes when more than 726 million vaccine doses have been administered so far in 154 countries.
With just 4.3% of the global population, the U.S has 24% of the world’s vaccinations, while Pakistan, with a 2.7% of the global population, has vaccine coverage of only 0.1%.
The U.S is on track to cover 75% of its residents in the next three months, a time nearly half of countries will not have reached 1% of their populations.
China, with 18% of the global population, has administered 20% of the world’s vaccination, a rate roughly in line with the global average.
Africa, the world’s least wealthy continent, has only three countries that have inoculated more than 1% of their populations.
Enough vaccines have now been administered to vaccinate about 5% of the global population.
