(The Street) George Soros’s hedge fund is actively trading bitcoin, about three years since he developed an interest in cryptocurrencies.
Soros Fund Management started trading bitcoin after chief investment officer Dawn Fitzpatrick approved the firm to deal in digital currencies.
In March, Fitzpatrick said she viewed bitcoin more as a commodity, even as she warned that bitcoin demand was driven by debasing of fiat currencies by central banks.
Exploring crypto investments since 2018, the fund management has previously invested in related infrastructure.
Soros Fund, which manages about $27 billion, joins others like Paul Tudor Jones and Brevan Howard, which have made crypto inroads.
