Ford Announces a 18.8% Decline in China Vehicle Sales in Q1 2022

(Ford) Ford sold about 125,000 vehicles in China in the first quarter of 2022, a decline of 18.8% from the same period of last year.

The fall in the vehicle sales in China reflected heightened semiconductor constraints and Covid-19 restrictions in the country.

Ford said that its brand commercial vehicles still outperformed the overall commercial segment, with sales of around 51,000 units. The sales were 27.1% below last year.

Lincoln hit a record first-quarter sales of at least 19,4000, an increase of 0.8%.

Ford passenger vehicles sales were down by 17.3% to 46,700 in the first quarter.

The automaker announced that it strengthened its strategy of localization in the quarter with the unveiling of the Ford China Design Center in Shanghai. The facility will produce vehicles tailored to the needs of Chinese users.
