WASHINGTON — First lady Jill Biden has tested positive for COVID-19, according to her spokeswoman. However, she is currently experiencing only mild symptoms. In response to this news, President Joe Biden also underwent testing for the virus, but his results came back negative. Despite this, the president will continue to be tested regularly and closely monitored for any symptoms.
For the time being, Jill Biden will remain at the couple’s home in Rehoboth Beach, Del., as confirmed by communications director Elizabeth Alexander. This means that the first lady’s plans to begin the new school year at Northern Virginia Community College, where she teaches English and writing, have been put on hold. However, she is working with school officials to arrange substitute teachers for her classes while she recovers.
Over the weekend, both President Biden and Jill Biden had traveled to Florida together to assess the damage caused by Hurricane Idalia. Following this, President Biden spent part of the Labor Day weekend at their Delaware beach house. On Monday, he attended a union event in Philadelphia before returning to the White House.
It is worth noting that both the Bidens had previously contracted COVID-19 last summer.
