(WSJ) Jennifer Homendy, a top federal crash investigator, has termed Tesla’s idea of upgrading the driver-assistance software as premature.
Through the National Transportation Safety Board, Homendy has asked Tesla first to address the deficiencies in the EV maker’s technology.
Homendy questioned how Tesla’s software is tested on public highways. She has also termed Tesla’s FSD as misleading and irresponsible.
The investigator’s recommendation comes as Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk sought an enhanced version of the Full Self-Driving Capability to help drivers navigate cities besides highways.
Musk says the enhanced driver-assistance tools avert crashes and improve the safety of driving. He says 2000 beta users have operated for nearly a year with no crashes.
Safety advocates and authorities say that drivers could be overestimating the advanced driver-assistance systems’ capabilities. Tesla plans to monitor the driving patterns for the enhanced system.
