(New York Post) Prosecutors at the Manhattan federal court have revealed that a computer glitch in an exclusive software program used by the FBI led to unauthorized access by employees.
Virgil Griffith is the accused hacker of the FBI program created by Palantir after data was recovered from his Facebook and Twitter accounts following a federal search warrant of March last year.
The federal prosecutors have found that FBI employees, who comprise three analysts and an agent, viewed the material entered in Palantir through the software’s default settings.
Manhattan prosecutors asked Palantir employees to delete the data on August 17, saying they did not intend to use the information against Griffith.
A Palantir spokesperson has accused the FBI of causing the error, saying the company’s platform has robust security controls and access.
Analysts have also faulted the FBI’s use of the Palantir software.
Griffith’s attorney is considering legal remedies for his client, who is also accused of violating international sanctions through his travels to North Korea.
