Facebook’s Schroepfer to Resign as Chief Technology Officer Next Year

(Facebook) Mike Schroepfer, Facebook’s Chief Technology Officer, has announced that he is resigning from the role next year to take a ‘senior fellow’ position in the company.

Andrew Bosworth, who has been leading the firm’s Reality Labs, will be the new Facebook CTO and will continue with his AR/VR leadership role.

Mike Schroepfer has also led the hardware division at Facebook in the past, and he is said to have been one of Zuckerberg’s closest senior executives.

Mark Zuckerberg has praised the outgoing CTO for his crucial role in developing AI and VR technology during his tenure. Schroepfer joined Facebook in August 2008.

Facebook had grown from a $15 billion valuation when Schroepfer joined to its current market capitalization of almost $1 trillion.
