Facebook Suffers a Blow as Digital Currency Engineers Leave for Andreessen Horowitz

(CNBC) Facebook’s top digital currency engineers Riyaz Faizullabhoy and Nassim Eddequiouaq have left to join Andreessen Horowitz, a leading crypto venture firm.

Faizullabhoy is joining the venture capital firm as the chief technology officer, while Eddequiouaq will serve as the chief information security officer.

Anthony Albanese, the venture firm’s operating chief, said that the two engineers would be advising portfolio companies on systems security and sophistication.

The duo worked on Facebook’s Novi digital wallet. The project has faced scrutiny from regulators and policymakers, forcing some of its leaders to leave.

Faizullabhoy and Eddequiouaq worked at a digital asset bank start-up, Anchorage, before joining Facebook. Marc Andreessen, the co-founder of Andreessen Horowitz, served on Facebook’s board before starting the firm in 2009.

FB: NASDAQ is up +0.17% on pre-market.
