Electric car start-up Nio plans to start deliveries in Norway in September, its first market outside China, according to CNBC. The Chinese EV maker will first launch its ES8 SUV and ET7 Sedan next year in the new market.
Nio will expand its local staff to 50 by the end of the year from the current 15.
The Norway operation will start with a flagship “Nio House” store to be opened in Q3 in Oslo.
The EV maker will open four other smaller showrooms in other Norway regions in 2022.
Norway presents an opportunity to Nio since about 54.3% of new cars sold in the country last year were EVs, up from 42% the previous year.
Other Chinese EV makers are also selling in Norway, with Xpeng having delivered 100 units in December of its G3 electric SUV.Nio stock is currently declining. NIO: NYSE is down 0.29% on premarket.
