EIA Reports a 1.0M Barrels Decline in US Crude Inventories

(EIA) The US recorded an average of 415.1 million barrels of crude in the week that ended January 28, down by 1.0 million barrels from the previous week.

Crude refinery inputs also edged lower, with a total of 15.2 million barrels per day, down by 248,000 from the previous week’s average. Refineries were operating at 86.7% capacity. 

Both gasoline production and distillate fuel output fell, averaging 8.7 million bpd and 4.6 million bpd in the week.

Crude imports increased by 0.8 million bpd to an average of 7.1 million bpd. The crude imports were about 6.5 million bpd on average in the past four weeks, up 9.6% from the prior year.

The US’s total supplies of crude products averaged 21.6 million bpd in the past four weeks, an increase of 11.8% from the prior year.

Following a decline in the last week of January, crude inventories are now 9% below the five-year average at a similar time of the year.
