(WSJ) A US appeals court has ruled that Apple can delay changes ordered by a federal judge on its App Store as part of an antitrust case with Epic Games Inc.
In a previous ruling, Apple was compelled to let developers communicate with users on alternative payments available outside the App Store.
The Ninth US Circuit Court of Appeals says Apple successfully proved that Epic Games had not shown how it violated the antitrust laws while at the same time violating California’s unfair competition law.
Apple has positively received the appeal court ruling saying the proposed changes would have carried new security and privacy risks while hurting user experience on the App Store.
The court verdict now puts on hold changes to the App Store, with Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers saying that the first ruling would have affected millions of participants on the app platform. Apple was facing the December 9 deadline for implementing the proposed changes.
