(Eurostat) Production in the construction sector declined by 1.3% in the euro area in August from July, a slower fall compared to a 1.8% decrease in the EU.
Compared to August 2020, construction production was down by 1.6% and 1.0% in the euro area and EU, respectively.
Civil engineering fell by 1.9% in the euro area in August from July, while the EU posted a decline of 1.4%. It was down by 2.9% in the euro area and 1.5% in the EU from the prior year.
Building construction was down by 1.3% in the euro area in August from July, while the EU had a fall of 2.1%. Building construction was down by 1.3% in the euro area and 0.7% in the EU from the prior year.
The largest monthly declines in construction production were Sweden, Hungary, and Germany. The countries of Portugal, Slovakia, and Poland led in production construction increases.
On a yearly basis, the largest declines in production in construction were in Spain, Romania, and Slovenia. The largest gains were posted by Hungary, Poland, and Finland.
