Reliance Industries Limited has postponed a planned launch of a low-cost smartphone in India in partnership with Google due to chip shortage, according to Reuters.
The launch, which had been scheduled for September 10, has now been pushed to November.
Reliance Industries Limited and Google have begun testing the JioPhone in a push to avail it during the Diwali festival, which will happen between October and November.
Mukesh Ambani, Reliance Founder, said in June that Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited was going to lead in 5G services in India. The telecommunication company in 2016 disrupted India’s market with free voice services and low-cost data plans.
With more than 425 million customers, Jio is now the leading mobile carrier in India.
