Celebrity Investor O’Leary to Pursue ‘Clean’ Bitcoin. Shuns Chinese ‘Blood Coin’

Celebrity investor Kevin O’Leary will only buy bitcoin mined sustainably in countries that use clean energy, according to CNBC. O’Leary says he will buy coins he knows where and when it was mined, and will not buy ‘blood coin’ mined in China.

O’Leary’s comments reflect concerns that bitcoin mining is extremely energy intensive, with around 65% of the world’s bitcoin mined in China as of April 2020.

Institutions are also shunning coins mined in China due to issues with human rights.

O’Leary did not elaborate on where he acquires ‘clean’ bitcoin

The celebrity investor once called bitcoin ‘garbage’ but changed his mind recently saying he would allocate 3% of his personal portfolio to the cryptocurrency.

O’Leary is also working to ensure every coin he owns is compliant.

Bitcoin is currently declining. BTCUSD is down 1.30%
