(Census Bureau) Building permits for privately-owned housing units were 1.589 million in September, down 7.7% from August. The permits were little changed from September 2020.
Housing starts averaged an annual rate of 1.555 million in September, 1.6% below the August rate. The housing starts were 7.4% above the prior year.
Housing completions reached an annual rate of 1.24 million in September, down 4.6% from August. The completions were 13.0% below the prior year.
