BP Performs Poorly in Carbon Emission Control, Research Shows

(Bloomberg) British Petroleum has come under pressure after data from the Permian Basin, US largest oil field, revealed that its operations were among the dirtiest among the firms operating there.

BP is reportedly emitting 500 grams for its equivalent barrel of oil produced. Exxon emitted less than 50 grams, while Chevron’s was within the range of Exxon’s.

BP has been accused of releasing unburnt methane gas into the environment, which has over 80 times global warming power than carbon dioxide.

ExxonMobil operations ranked among the cleanest despite their hard stance against a net zero-carbon emission target.

BP has termed the findings as misleading because it concluded from limited data. It said that it was planning to cut methane emissions by half.

The oil giant said it uses drones, aircraft, and satellites to monitor its methane emissions and plans to have carbon measurement devices in its processing sites by 2023.

BP: LON is down -3.84%.
