BMW will double its sales of fully-electric vehicles this year as it seeks to comply with CO2 emission targets and chase market leader Tesla, according to Reuters. Including plug-in hybrids, the automaker also aims for a 50% increase in sales of electrified vehicles versus 2020.
- BMW sold close to 193,000 electrified vehicles, that includes fully electric and plug-in hybrid last year, behind Tesla’s 500,000.
- BMW global EV sales rose 31.8% in 2020, and Europe accounted for 15%, helping the company meet its European Union emission targets for last year.
- The BMW Group currently produces 13 electrified models, either fully electric or plug-in hybrid, sold in 74 markets.
- BMW aims to almost double its lineup of electrified vehicles to 25 models by 2023, with more than half of them fully electric.
