Apple has dispatched teams to investigate if its Taiwanese contractor Wistron Corporation flouted supplier guidelines at an iPhone manufacturing facility near the Indian city of Bangalore, reports SCMP. The move happened after unidentified factory workers trashed the manufacturing facility over the weekend demanding unpaid wages and higher working hours.
- Apple demands its suppliers provide safe working conditions, treat workers with dignity, and use environmentally sound practices when making products or performing services for the company.
- Wistron is one of Apple’s top global suppliers and makes iPhone 7 handsets and second-generation iPhone SE devices in India
- Wistron defended itself saying it was “deeply shocked” by the violence and blamed it on “unknown persons” having unclear intentions.
Apple’s stock is currently gaining. AAPL: NASDAQ is flat on the premarket.
