(Twitter) American Express has filed 7 new trademark applications as it makes its way into the world of virtual reality or metaverse.
American Express will register the company’s name, slogans, and logo as it expands into the metaverse. The company also eyes branded NFTs.
The application, already submitted to the US Patent and Trademark Office, will see the company also offer NFT backed multimedia digital asset services, exchange services, and virtual banking.
The move by the American Express comes amid a growing craze for the metaverse, with the New York Stock Exchange having also filed similar patents in February.
The number of NFT trademark applications rose 421 times in the US in 2021, a significant jump from only 3 the previous year.
