Airbnb Bookings Rises 59% in Q1 2022 to Above Pre-pandemic Levels

(Airbnb) Airbnb reported 102.1 million nights and experiences bookings in the first quarter of 2022, up by 59% from the prior year. 

The bookings marked the first time Airbnb surpassed 100 million, with the levels above the pre-pandemic period. 

In the quarter, Airbnb reported $17.2 billion Gross Bookings Value, an increase of 67% from the previous year. 

The company reported a revenue of $1.5 billion in the first quarter, an increase of 70% from the prior year and 80% higher than the first quarter of 2019.

Airbnb said it attained its first adjusted positive EBITDA of $229 million in the first quarter. The positive EBITDA compares to a loss of $59 million in the prior year and loss of $248 million in the first quarter of 2019.

Airbnb now projects a revenue of between $2.03 billion and $2.13 billion in the second quarter. The company also expects the increase in the nights and experiences booked in the second quarter to approximate the growth rate in the first quarter.
