US Housing Permits Climb 6.0% in August to Remain Elevated from Prior Year

(Census Bureau) US building permits for privately-owned housing units reached an annual rate of 1.728 million in August, up 6.0% from July. The permits are now 13.5% higher than the comparable month of 2020.

Housing starts were at an annual rate of 1.615 million, up 3.9% from July. The housing starts are 17.4% above August 2020.

Housing completions reached an annual rate of 1.330 million, up 4.5% from July. The house completions were 9.4% higher than in August 2020.
