About 98% of political contributions from the tech firms went to Democrats, reports CNBC. The CEOs of Asana, Twilio, and Netflix were among the biggest contributors, all targeted Democratic groups and candidates.
- Asana CEO Dustin Moskovitz spent $24 million, Twilio CEO Jeff Lawson and wife donated $7 million, while former Google CEO Eric Schmidt donated $6 million to Joe Biden’s presidential bid through Future Forward USA.
- Netflix’s Reed Hastings and wife donated $5 million to the Senate Majority Pac, a group backing Democratic candidates.
- Internet firms’ employees committed 98% of their contributions to Democrats.
- Hoffman, a partner at Greylock Partners, contributed about $14 million, including $2 million to the Senate Majority PAC and $1 million each to Biden backers, Unite the Country and American Bridge 21st Century.
- Silicon Valley investor Vinod Khosla donated $1 million, while Michael Moritz of Sequoia Capital contributed over $3 million backing Democrats.
- Jessica Livingston of start-up incubator Y Combinator donated $5 million to Democratic groups.
- Capitalist Peter Thiel, a Republican funder, donated more than $2 million to the Free Forever Pac for electing Republican Kris Kobach to the Senate in Kansas but lost in the primaries.
- Irwin Jacobs, the former CEO of Qualcomm, with his wife Joan, donated about $7 million towards Democratic groups and have committed an additional $3 million to get their granddaughter, Sara Jacobs elected to the House of Representatives in San Diego County.
- Kenneth Duda, the co-founder of networking firm Arista, donated $4 million while Marc Merrill, co-founder of Riot Games, contributed over $1 million in support of congressional candidates in both parties.
