(ONS) UK consumer prices increased by 6.2% in the twelve months to February 2022, accelerating from a gain of 5.5% in January. The inflation was the highest since March 1992.
On a monthly basis, consumer prices increased by 0.8% in February, compared to a gain of 0.1% in February 2021. The rate was the highest monthly gain between January and February in thirteen years.
Including owner occupiers’ housing costs, the CPI rose by an annual 5.5% in February, compared to an increase of 4.9% in January. The CPIH increased by 0.7% on a monthly basis in February, up from a gain of 0.1% in the comparable month of 2021.
Similar gains were noted in output prices, with the charges posting an annual gain of 10.1% in February, compared to an increase of 9.9% in January. On a monthly basis, the output charges were up 0.8% in February, declining from 1.2% in the previous month.
