(Uber) Uber drivers in the US will have access to 50,000 fully electric Tesla vehicles by 2023 after the ride-sharing giant entered into a rental deal with Hertz.
Uber’s deal with Hertz is the largest expansion of electric vehicles on mobility platforms in North America.
Drivers in Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, and Washington DC will, starting November 1, rent Teslas via Hertz rental program.
Uber’s move is part of its plan to reach a zero-emission goal by embracing future mobility solutions.
Drivers are expected to benefit by offering longer rides at reduced costs while also realizing about 3 to 4 times emissions savings on average. Uber’s Green Future Program is already offering $1 more per trip up to $4,000 each year, for drivers who transition to EVs.
Tesla rentals will cost $334 a week and is expected to decline further to $299 as the program continues. Eligible drivers will be required to have a 4.7-star rating and must have made at least 150 trips.
