The U.S. Initial Jobless Claims Rise Above Expectations

U.S. seasonally adjusted initial claims for the week ending November 14 was 742,000, up 31,000 from the previous week’s revised level and above expected 700,000, according to the Department of Labor’s press release. Continuing claims were 6.37 million, below the estimated 6.40 million.  

  • Prior initial jobless claims revised higher from 709,000 to 711,000.
  • Prior continuing claims revised higher from 6.786 million to 6.801 million.
  • The 4-week average claims were 742,000, down from the previous 755,800.
  • Unadjusted actual initial claims under state programs were 743,460, up 2.5% or 18,344 from the previous week.
