(CNBC) Analysts are warning that the Taliban’s reign in Afghanistan may allow China to exploit its rare metals, which are estimated to run into trillions of dollars.
Alliance Bernstein director Shamaila Khan says Taliban insurgents have emerged with resources that put the world at a dangerous proposition.
Analysts now say the international community must exert pressure on China if it seeks an alliance with the Taliban.
The comments by the analysts happened following Beijing’s assertions that it was ready to cooperate with Afghanistan hours after the Taliban took over the country.
Taliban is said to seek, “on multiple occasions,” China’s participation in Afghanistan’s reconstruction.
Afghanistan’s rare earth metals were estimated to have a worth of about $1 trillion to $3 trillion.
