Eurozone Flashes Signs of a Recession as Sentiment Index Plunges to -18 Points in April

(Sentix) The economic sentiment index in the euro deteriorated by 11 points to -18 points at the beginning of April.

At -18 points, the sentiment index is at its weakest since July 2020, indicating a possible start of a recession at the onset of the second quarter of 2022.

Both the situation and expectations indexes entered the negative territory. The situation index was at -4.8 points, down by 14.8 points, with the level as worse as it was in March 2021. The expectations were at the worst since January 2009.

The decline in the economic sentiment was noted globally, with many regions, including Asia, facing stagnation.
