U.S. Initial Jobless Claims Rises Above Expectations

U.S. jobless claims for the week ending October 10 were 898,000, a 53,000 increase from previous week’s revised level, according to press release. Weekly jobless claims higher than expected 825,000. Continuing claims were 10.02 million, a fall from the expected 10.55 million. 

  • The 4-week moving average was 866,250, up 8,000 from the previous week’s revised average. 
  • Unadjusted advance actual initial claims under state programs were 885,885, a 9.5% rise from the previous week.
  • California jobless claims remain at the prior level
  • Prior initial jobless claims revised higher from 840,000 to 845,000
  • Prior continuing claims revised higher million from 10.976 million to 11.183
