Microsoft Q2 Revenues Grew by 17% on Cloud Strengths

Microsoft revenues for the second quarter ending December 31, 2020, were $43.1 billion, up 17% year over year, according to the company’s press release. The earnings growth was driven by commercial cloud revenue, which rose 34% to $16.7 billion year over year. 

  • Operating income was $17.9 billion, up 29% year over year.
  • Net income was $15.5 billion, up 33% year over year.
  • Diluted earnings per share was $2.03, up 34% year over year.
  • Revenue in Productivity and Business Processes was $13.4 billion, up 13% or 11% on a constant currency basis.
  • Revenue in Intelligent Cloud was $14.6 billion, up 23% or 22% on a constant currency basis.
  • Revenue in More Personal Computing was $15.1 billion, up 14% or 13% on a constant currency basis.
  • Microsoft returned $10 billion to shareholders in share repurchases and dividends in the second fiscal quarter of 2021, a rise of 18% year over year.
  • Microsoft is expected to provide forward-looking guidance on its earnings conference call and webcast.
