McDonald’s to Test McPlant Next Year that includes its own Meat-Free Burger

McDonald’s will test a meat-free burger in several markets next year, as plans to add plant-based menu offerings get underway, according to CNBC. Coined “McPlant,” the plant-based menu also includes chicken substitutes.

  • McDonald’s stopped the Canadian test of its meatless burger in April and has since shelved plans to bring back its P.L.T. burger.
  • Other McDonald’s global markets have succeeded with meatless burgers as restaurants in Germany, for example, have added veggie burgers made by Nestle to their menus.
  • Beyond Meat shares, the entity which made meat-free patties for McDonald’s Canadian test, fell 6% on Monday morning trading on the news and were halted for volatility.
