Bitcoin a Gold Substitute? Former Treasury’s Mnuchin Thinks So after Criticisms

(Cointelegraph) US Treasury Secretary under President Donald Trump, Steven Mnuchin, has expressed support for Bitcoin as a substitute to gold.

Mnuchin says the technology behind blockchain is incredible and people can buy Bitcoin if they wish, although himself would not add the digital token to his portfolio.

The comments by the former Treasury boss are a change of opinion, having criticized Bitcoin in public during the tenure.

Mnuchin expressed a desire for Bitcoin’s regulation in its endeavor to become mainstream.

Mnuchin’s comments come amid broader criticism of Bitcoin, with current Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen raising concerns about the crypto industry.
